Linear Motors
A linear motor axis consists of a linear module with an integrated linear motor which is able to move the carriage back and forth. Linear motors are linear direct drives with uniform, linear force. They are particularly suitable for fast positioning and feed movements at high accuracy.
Advantages of the ESR linear motors:
- high dynamics
- highest precision
- high speeds possible
- also suitable for slow motions
Compared to other linear drive systems (such as toothed belt or ball screw), an ESR linear motor incorporates the advantages of a direct drive providing high acceleration and speeds at high rigidity and precision.
Characteristics of the ESR Linear Motors
- Wide range of variants in various designs and sizes
- For applications with high dynamics and high accuracy
- Maintenance-free linear units with long service life
- Completely assembled axes with linear profile, linear guide, linear motor, measuring system, and cable carrier
- Absolute linear measuring system, no reference run (homing) required
- Depending on the type optional cover as a protection against dust and other pollution
- Comfortable lubrication of the rail guides via lubrication nipples
- Very low friction
- Mounting via T-slots
- Can be combined to form a multi-axis system

Linear Motors As Modular System
Instead of completely assembled linear motor axes, the components are also available individually to be integrated directly into the linear axis of a machine. This way, linear movements with high dynamics can be realized in a space saving way. For information on the linear motor modular system, please see page Linear Motor Components.
